It’s been a while since my last post, but…in my absence, I’ve been up to my ears in projects. Nearing the completion of my first children’s book–having-a-go at illustrating, and enjoying each brushstroke of watercolor on my paper-canvas–I couldn’t be more excited to see it all evolving before my eyes.
For more than two years, I searched for someone to do my illustrations for another children’s book I’d written more than two years ago. But, it was not to be! Either I couldn’t afford to pay what each artist was asking…or something along those lines. Now, as I pat myself on the back for finally giving it a try…and succeeding, I look back on the day when the ‘light bulb’ finally went off above my very hard head.
Having shared my painting, and story, with only one person outside my family, I look forward to sharing my work with the world. I look forward to being able to dedicate this book to my youngest daughter and my grandson, since both had not-yet been born when my first book was published back in 2008.
Even though the writing of books is not entirely new to me, since my debut effort was a women’s fiction novel, I have to say I’m still very ‘wet behind the ears’ when it comes to putting my thoughts and words into book form. My youngest child, being six years old, is my toughest critic; telling me which painting she likes…and why she favors one over the other.
So…I look forward to the next few months, when my book is set to hit the shelves; both virtual and in stores. For me, anticipation of such brings me back to my childhood…when I eagerly awaited my next birthday or Christmas morning. For me, seeing my words and illustrations come together is priceless in-and-of-itself. I look forward to sharing it with you all!
